Payment counter

A shop sent you here to pay. Here is what that means.

ePay is the counter shops use to take mobile-money and card payments. You pass through it for a few seconds, between the shop and your wallet or your bank.

What the counter touches — and what it never does

Your bank card number never reaches us

Visa, MasterCard and Amex payments are completed on the payment provider’s own hosted page. The card number, its expiry date and the security code are entered there, not on the counter. A PayCard prepaid card works differently: its card number and PIN are entered on the counter and passed to PayCard to execute the payment, and neither is stored.

Your wallet PIN is never stored

When a mobile-money method asks for a PIN or a one-time code, that value is stripped out before anything is saved, written to a log, or passed on. Nothing in the gateway can read it back.

We never hold your money

ePay is a technical intermediary. It asks the provider to execute the payment and records the outcome; the money moves from you to the shop, never into an ePay account.

What is kept is the receipt, not the secret

A record of the payment — its reference, amount, currency, and the name, phone number or email supplied with it — is kept so the payment can be reconciled and proven later.

How a payment runs

The shop sends you here

The counter shows who you are paying, how much, and the methods available for that payment.

You choose a method

Mobile money sends a confirmation request to your handset. A card takes you to the provider’s own secure page.

You confirm, the shop is told

Once the provider confirms the payment, the gateway notifies the shop automatically, with a signed message.
